Preventing wildfire – advice from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS)
Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) would like to urge the public to consider safe actions when enjoying the countryside and exploring local rural areas. We all can play our part to prevent wildfire from occurring which can have a devastating effect on our wildlife, natural sites and farming land.
If you see a fire:
- If you do see a fire in the countryside/rural areas, dial 999 immediately
- Don’t attempt to fight fires that can’t be put out safely on your own
- Give a map reference if possible, otherwise give a landmark such as a farm or pub to help us locate you
- Estimate the size of the area that’s burning and the colour/amount of smoke you can see
- Describe the type of terrain, whether it is grass, bracken, forest/farm land etc
- Evacuate the area as soon and as safely as possible
A number of safety tips to help you and the community stay safe and protect our lands can be found here: https://www.northantsfire.gov.uk/countrysideandrural/
