Street Lights – remaining on all day

The Parish Council are aware some street lights remain on during the day. The company who supplied and maintained the lights have now gone into administration. The Parish Council are looking into engaging with a new maintenance contractor but capacity has been limited with the implementation of large scale projects.

Whilst the Parish Council recognise this is a waste of electricity, they can confirm it is of no direct cost to the parishioners as it is an unmetered supply.

The lights were upgraded to LED in 2022 and were programmed so that they use 50% less energy from midnight to 5am. The reduced energy consumption was calculated and sent to the energy supplier. This resulted in the May/June 2022 invoice reducing from £237.19 to £73.70 (inc VAT). So a significant saving for the parishioners.

The Parish Council’s monthly bills remain the same regardless of whether the lights are on all day.

With the implementation of the 20mph zone in the village in the coming weeks, it is hoped the Parish Council will have the capacity to consider and review a new maintenance contract so the problem can be rectified.
